There is a common oversight in understanding one of the greatest benefits of using a "Web Ready" DVR security camera system. Routers function as the gateway to the internet for all the internal computers. Most homes and businesses have routers in operation today. The traffic a router receives does not have to be sent to the world wide web. Routers can send traffic to devices connected to the internal network similar to printing a document on a network printer from a computer.

The same is true for a web ready DVR with security cameras. The security cameras connect to the DVR. The DVR connects to the router. Then any internal computer with a browser and proper security clearance that is connected to the router can view live footage on the cameras and playback footage recorded on the DVR. It does not seem natural to most people. We can quite possibly be connecting to a device that is a foot away by going through a device that may be several rooms away.

By using a web ready DVR camera system you can leverage equipment that you already purchased and installed on your network. There is no need for an additional monitor. That is why most web ready DVR systems do not come with a monitor. This is a very practical and cost saving reason to use a web ready DVR system.

Here is one more important tip for using a web ready DVR security system: always choose a seat at least 10 feet away from the pool, otherwise someone might make a splash and get your laptop soaked.

Question by Steve: What is the best software for use with a security camera and card for computer?
Hello,,

I have a card for my computer where security camera plug in and several cameras. Just wondering if anyone out there knows of the best (cheapest) software that can be used for computer DVR for cameras.

Wow best answer for that one!! The card usually comes with the software.. If I would have know that I would not have even ask... What was I thinking? I guess I should add for those who do not know. I am asking about software because I do not have the software that came with the card. Thank you
